Dowland’s Lachrimae (tears) is my favorite. His elaboration was pertinent – balanced and graceful. Queen Elizabeth’s Galliard is a lively but short piece – no much impression. He maintains all the subtly of the originals as well as exploiting all the tonal range of the classical guitar. The guitar work is clear and articulate.
What makes this CD so successful is Sollscher's classical guitar expertise and the quality of the people writing the arrangements, which includes Toru Takemitsu, noted Japanese classical composer. Five of the arrangements are by Sollscher himself.

The eleven string guitar Sollscher uses here allows him to put in the bass parts ordinary classical guitarist wouldn't be able to reach, expanding his range in the direction of a Lute. Additionally he adapts pieces written for other instruments (for example Couperin's 'Les Barricades Misterieuses, written for harpsichord, and Bach's G minor Sonata no.1 for violin), to the guitar.
